This kit has a pretty interesting history!

Megami Device kits were originally intended as a spiritual successor to Konami's Busou Shinki action figures. After their first few kits Kotobukiya signed a collaboration with Konami to make a proper reboot called Busou Shinki R, hiring artist BLADE to design one of the girls named TaoNyao. Internal struggles led to the Busou Shinki R video game being canceled, and the kits being in copyright limbo due to Konami's part ownership. Instead of throwing away all of their designs completely, Kotobukiya instead commissioned BLADE to retool TaoNyao into an original design under the Megami Device brand, now named MAO.

In the first two pictures you can see the original design and the lineup of proposed BSR kits, and the third is the newest version. Maybe someday we can see these other girls redesigned in the same way MAO was!
